Seventh International Conference
for National Human Rights Institutions

 Seoul 14-17 September 2004.

The 1st International Conference for National Institutions was held in Paris in 1991 under the auspices of the UN Office of High Commissioner of Human Rights (hereinafter OHCHR) and the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (hereinafter ICC) to meet the increasing needs for cooperation among National Institutions for protection and promotion of human rights.

The overall aims of the International Conference for National Institutions (hereinafter NIs) is to develop and strengthen the cooperation among National Institutions, to promote the establishment or strengthening of ties of friendship and solidarity between participants, to discuss human rights issues, and to ensure their follow-up at the national level. Since the first Conference in Paris, the Conference has been held every two years alternating between Europe, America, Africa and Asia/Pacific. Now, the Conference has grown into a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience and further cooperation among NIs.

The 7th Conference was held in Seoul, Korea in September 2004 hosted by The National Human Rights Commission of Korea together with Co-Hosts: "International Co-ordinating Committee of National Institutions" , "UN Office of the High Commissoner for Human Right(OHCHR)".
